Privacy Policy
Apparent works locally in your browser. This page explains what the extension needs to function, what it stores, and what it intentionally does not do.
Intro
Effective March 14, 2026
Apparent for Gmail ("Apparent," "we," "our," or "us") is a Chrome extension that helps make Gmail easier to read and manage.
This Privacy Policy explains, in straightforward terms, what Apparent needs access to, what it stores, and what it does not do.
In Plain English
Apparent works locally in your browser to change how Gmail looks and behaves. Your Gmail content stays in your browser and is not sent to our servers.
That also means:
- we do not sell your data
- we do not use your emails for advertising
- we do not use your Gmail content to train AI models
- we do not include analytics or telemetry that sends your Gmail data to us
What Apparent Accesses
To work, Apparent needs access to Gmail pages in your browser at https://mail.google.com/*.
This lets the extension:
- apply the features you turn on
- adjust or simplify parts of the Gmail interface
- detect Gmail tabs so features can be refreshed when needed
- remember your settings, reminders, and onboarding state
Apparent is designed to work on Gmail in your browser. It is not designed to collect your email content for our own use.
What Apparent Stores
Apparent stores only the settings it needs to work, such as enabled features, display preferences, reminder state, and onboarding state.
This data is used only to run the extension and remember your preferences.
Where Data Is Stored
Apparent stores extension data using Chrome’s extension storage systems, including local browser storage and, when available, Chrome sync storage for certain settings.
Your Gmail content is processed locally in your browser. Apparent does not send your Gmail content to our servers.
What We Don’t Do
Apparent does not collect your Gmail content for our servers, sell your personal information, use your data for advertising, use your Gmail content to train AI models, include analytics or telemetry that sends your Gmail data to us, or rely on remotely hosted code to provide extension functionality.
How We Use Information
Any information Apparent accesses is used only to apply the features you enable, remember your settings, maintain reminder or feature state, and open support, review, donation, or feedback links when you choose to use them.
All Gmail interface processing happens within your browser.
External Links
Apparent may include links to things like a support email window, the Chrome Web Store review page, a Buy Me a Coffee page, or an uninstall feedback form.
These open only when you trigger them, or when the browser opens the uninstall page during removal of the extension. If you interact with an external site, that site’s own terms and privacy policy apply.
Permissions
Apparent uses browser permissions only to provide its intended functionality, including:
- storage — to save your settings and extension state
- access to Gmail pages — to apply features on mail.google.com
- tab-related access for Gmail — to detect Gmail tabs and refresh enabled features when needed
Apparent requests only the access it needs to work.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties for advertising or marketing. We also do not send your Gmail content to our servers.
Information may leave your device only in limited cases, such as Chrome syncing extension settings through its own systems, you choosing to open an external link, or your browser opening the uninstall feedback page during removal of the extension.
Data Retention
Apparent keeps extension settings and state in browser storage until you change or reset the settings, clear browser or extension storage, uninstall the extension, or Chrome removes synced extension data according to its own behavior and settings.
Because Chrome storage behavior can vary, deletion timing may depend on your browser environment.
Security
Apparent is designed to reduce privacy risk by processing Gmail interface data locally in your browser and by not sending Gmail content to our servers.
That said, no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children’s Privacy
Apparent is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to Apparent for Gmail itself. It does not apply to Gmail or other Google services, the Chrome browser, Chrome sync or Google account storage practices, or third-party websites or services opened from the extension.
Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Policy Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this document.
Your continued use of Apparent after an updated Privacy Policy takes effect means you accept the revised version.
